Cadiz

Much like other metropoles, Antwerp regularly needs new housing. But the Cadiz complex of 4 buildings offers more than housing: first and foremost, it stands for a certain way of life. The towers, each rising 6 floors high, contain 186 apartments and stand on a base of 3 levels, offering room for amenities and services. In addition, 2 underground levels provide a car park. BESIX-Vanhout prepared the site, completed the construction and finishing of the towers, and even oversaw the sale of the apartments: end-to-end project management.

Standing tall on a former customs area along the canal, the spectacular complex counts as a new landmark within a completely renovated district. Before construction work could begin, the team first needed to carry out soil remediation and dismantle the old customs installations. BESIX-Vanhout also completed the finishing work, technical installations in all residential areas, parking facilities, communal spaces and even the design of the interior garden. Residents of the nursing home moved into their new home in February 2017, while all 48 assisted living spaces have been sold and are set for completion in summer 2017.

This environmentally friendly housing project took measures to collect as much rainwater as possible, with sewer drainage kept to a minimum. Green roofs and storage tanks help to regulate water drainage, while collected rainwater can be re-used inside the complex. By minimizing its environmental impact, Cadiz will become the greenest section of Antwerp's 'Het Eilandje' neighbourhood.
